Gatekeeper?

Medical Care

No

I didn’t sign up to be a gatekeeper

As if medical care was a hoardable commodity rather than a living gift that dies if it’s not used

As if patients were beating down the gates to get at care they don’t need

As if what care cost was the most important thing

And who gets to keep the money

As if doctors and nurses were gathered at the gates hungry to provide care that patients don’t need

As if the gates have ever worked even a little bit.

EVER

Except to make everything cost more and more plus the cost of higher and higher gates making care accessible to the fewer and fewer patients rich enough and sick enough to need increasingly useless lifeless care.

I remember when all you needed to get Insulin was diabetes.

I remember when we resuscitated patients first and figured out how to pay for it second.
